Lavonia Welcome Center - Georgia for the Holidays
Soon the holiday season will be here and with that in mind, you’re invited to participate in the “2008 Georgia for the Holidays” promotion at the Georgia Visitor Information Center –Lavonia/I-85 South. In the past each participant was assigned their own day to set up within the center and greet visitors to Georgia. This year, since the traffic is down due to gas prices, things will be a little different. I (Pat Pierson) would like as many participants as I can get from Nov. 21st – Nov. 30th (except for Thanksgiving Day – we are closed). These are our busiest days!!!! Of course, if these dates are not good for you, we will set up another date. Times for the events will be from 10am – 2pm.
This is a great opportunity to catch visitors as they are entering the state
and let them know what is going on in your area for the Holiday Season!

The Membership Drive is flying high! AMTA has welcomed 14 new members
this year and there is still time for you to recruit more new members.
The grand prize giveaway for the member who brought in the most new members
in 2008 will be announced at the AMTA Holiday Luncheon on December 3rd. We’re
giving away two tickets on Air Tran Airways and a $100
American Express Gift Cheque. So think about your industry contacts
and sign them up now!
We have a NEW MEMBERSHIP SPECIAL!! Any
new member who joins between now and the end of the year will pay the regular,
annual dues amount of $195 and receive membership benefits for the rest of 2008 AND all
of 2009! So now is an excellent time to join AMTA.

2009 Membership Renewal Notices
It's that time of year again--time to renew your membership in the only Georgia
state travel region that serves the Atlanta Metro tourism industry--AMTA!
AMTA 2009 annual dues invoices will go out by mail on October 15, so look for
yours and please renew your membership promptly. Remember, membership benefits
extend from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009. Our goal is to have
all of our members renewed by December 31, so help us reach that goal. We
have an exciting year ahead and you don't want to miss out!

Upcoming AMTA Member Events:
Halloween Hikes at the Chattahoochee Nature Center is rapidly
approaching. Please help us to promote this engaging, entertaining and educational
event to the residents of Atlanta.
The details are as follows...
Our largest (and most popular) fundraiser of the year is called Halloween Hikes.
Many people came to the event as a child, and now bring their own children to
it. It is an Atlanta tradition. An evening
full of fun activities includes:
Take
your child on a well-lit hike through the forest to meet woodland creatures and
hear about their lives
Arts and crafts
Games
Face painting
Musical entertainment
A traditional bonfire!
Healthy refreshments by Harry’s Farmer’s Market/Whole Foods
Tickets go on sale each night at 6:30, with the last tickets sold at 9:30
PM
It really is good, clean fun for the entire family, and an excellent way to celebrate
Halloween. In fact, it’s the perfect non-scary alternative to traditional
Halloween events. All proceeds from the event go towards supporting the on-going
environmental education programs at the Center. $7 per person (children 2 and
under free).
The dates are: Friday and Saturday: October 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 6:30-9:30 PM.
Meetings begin at 10:00 AM. Please arrive at 9:30 for networking. Members are not required to attend Board Meetings.
